Top Gear Car Test: FWD Hot Hatches Empty

hello and welcome to another Art Racing Top Gear Car Test report!

This time we took some smaller cars with a lot of horse power and a lot of noise. Normal cars fitted out with a lot of spoilers, a screaming color and a bigger engine.

A3jan was in the new Ford Focus ST. With its 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo-charged engine putting out 225BHP and 350NM, it has the most torque and cylinders out off all the test models. In the color bright orange everybody will see you.. within 2 miles range.

Terr0r5314NL drove the new Vauxhall Astra VXR, or for everyone who doesn't live in Great Britain, an Opel Astra OPC. The most powerfull car of the bunch. 240BHP and 320NM and all that out a turbo-charged 2.0L 4-cylinder!

VoodooLarry took the Honda Civic Type R for a spin. The only one without a turbo-charged engine, and because of that it doesn't has a lot of power, but then again this one doesn't has a turbo. With only 201BHP and a "tiny" 200NM it was the slowest car of our panel.

Then there was the Volkswagen Golf V GTI. Driven by BMWFreakieNL, the least powerfull car although it has a turbo! 200BHP and 280NM from, yes AGAIN, a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. Nicknamed the Guaranteed Theft Item, if the cops drive a VXR or a Focus then leave it where it is!!

To keep traditions alive we start with a dragrace..
Same stretch as always, different cars (obviously), revving the engines and off we go!!

Unfortunately the VXR is a bit off a slow starter, feels like your Granny is driving. But as soon as the Turbo kicks in it becomes Lewis Hamilton and because of that, it finishes 2nd.. the Focus on the contrary speeds ahead and wins the race by a couple of inches. Due to the lack of a turbo the Civic really wasn't a match.

Then we did 2 Hot laps around the course (all testing is on Silverstone - Grand Prix) and although it wasn't screaming "Poweeerrrr!!!", the GTI posted the fastest lap time.
GTI : 2.11.865
VXR/OPC : 2.13.350
ST : 2.14.200
Type R : 2.15.447

The braking test results show that they know there business at Opel/Vauxhall and that the Focus has the weight of a Rolls-Royce Phantom next to the 3 Ariel Atoms. Again we speed up to 100km/h or 60 mil/h and brake all at the same time and same place.
1st - VXR
2nd - Type R
3rd - GTI
4th - Focus

The looks competition was won by the Focus, but the best sound and overall best was registered to the VXR. It has that real grunt that you want from a Hot Hatch. You don't buy a car with 200+BHP and some sort off fluorescent color, to drive unnoticeable past a funeral. You want it to have that grunt and scream as you revv the engine so high that the pistons are dancing on the bonnet and you could actually wake up the dead.
